1.

CHAPTER ONE

The summer heat of 2009 was finally starting to give way to the first signs of the cool air of September, and with some of the leaves starting to fall in Bryant Park the tents of fashion week were starting to go up. New York designers in the fashion world were in frenzy to show their creative output from their design studios that they have been working on all year. However this year something is about to occur that no one was suspecting, the total lost of highly secretive fashion designs that as of this date of this “Dream Log” have racked up a industry lost of over ten million dollars and counting in future sales in the major retail outlets.

At a complete lost to find a solution to these corporate thefts, Mr. Robert S. Freeman, the director of “Fashion Week” calls in the NYPD. For over a week, he has resisted the negative publicity that calling in the police would create. However, he is now fearful that many of the top fashion designers will pull out of this worldwide showcase, to protect their fashion designs, and forgo the formality of a publicity bonanza showing at Fashion Week will give them.

The Police One brass passes this “Hot Potato” to the chief of Manhattan detectives, Andrew Williams III. After his staff launches a low-key investigation into this matter, to find exactly what has actually occurred, he sees the fingerprints of a mind invasion case. He sees that there is no way that anyone could have penetrated the security of these designer showrooms or studios. He knows of only one squad and person that would have a chance to solve this crime.

2.

The person that he calls in to solve this case is his twenty-nine year-old goddaughter, Captain Wendy Marisa Flores of the “Dream Squad”. Her squad was created on May 16, 2007 for this very purpose to solve the unexplained crimes that the regular NYPD could not solve. So with one week before this multi-million dollar worldwide event is about to take place he calls his Dream Squad captain, to find the underlying cause of all of this.

“Hi, Wendy I have a serious problem, and I need your squads help.”

“Hi Chief, we are always ready to take on any case that you give us.”

After Chief Williams explains the investigation that his office started, he is now ready to let his Dream Squad captain have a go at solving this case.

“Shotgun” (a nickname that Chief Williams picked up in his old Narcotics Squad days wielding a 12-gauge shotgun.), this sounds like a dream or mind invasion crime.”

“That is what I think little one; this is right up your ally.”

“You got that right, my people are in between cases, we will give this one 100% of our effort to get Fashion Week into a safe state of operation”

“Thanks Captain; say is your mom and dad still having that barbeque this weekend?”

“They sure are and you Chief Godfather better be there.”

“I would not miss it for anything. Look let my office know what you need, and you will get it.”

“Will do, I am going to get my people up to speed in about ten minuets, I will let you know about our progress and send you updates as soon as we get any break in this case.”

“Thanks, Wendy I knew that I could count on you.”

“No problem, Chief, see you this weekend.”

“Sounds good.”

Within ten minuets, Captain Flores gathers her squad in her office to break down the finer points of this new case as her squad enters her office.

3.

“Diaz, your wrong, she never made that movie, it was the one with the vampire, ok!”

“Have it your way, Gina, I know that she was in it.”

“Well when you two solve your Entrainment Tonight issue we have a new case that might be one of our highest profile ones yet to solve.”

“Sorry Cap it’s just that Armando is so hardheaded.”

“I know I am right.”

“Where is Veronica, Gina?” Asks, Caption Flores.

“I gave her some DNA test to run on that knife we found by the body in Central Park, yesterday.”

“Any leads yet in that case?”

“Not yet, most of our leads are going stone cold. No witnesses, video, missing persons or usable forensics, except for that knife.”

“Ok, you are going to have to fill her in about our case conference.”

“No problem Cap. So what are we working on?”

“Well for starters, how current are you two with the hot new fashions this year?”

“Captain, if it is not NYPD, or Government Issue I would not know.”

“That figures.”

“Ok Gina, cool it and what about you?”

“Casual cool, like the stuff Myra, the singer wears.”

“And you talk about me?”

“Look you two divas; some one is stealing the top new designs even before they get in the tents of fashion week.”

“Captain, that is impossible their security is Fort Knox!”

“I know Diaz; however the chief feels that it is a Mind Invasion Case.”

“That makes sense, Cap owing to their tight security measures.”

“You two go to these designers, and scope out their operations, and Gina, maybe your years in robbery in Staten Island will come in to good use here.”

“Yeah, I sort of miss my old Robbery Division days.”

4.

“We need an answer fast as both of you know Fashion Week starts a week from now. Get Veronica up to speed as soon as both of you can.”

“Will do Captain.”

“Ok Diaz lets hit the streets.”

“Right behind you lieutenant.”

CHAPTER TWO

With both Lieutenant Ortiz and Sergeant Diaz in the field looking over the showrooms and design studios, Captain Flores takes a ride over to Bryant Park to look over the security measures and to personally speak to Mr. Robert S. Freeman to reassure him that the NYPD is on this case in full force. After an hour looking over the tight security at the event site, she meets up with Detective Varela.

“Veronica, did Ortiz hook up with you and fill you in about this case?”

“She did DC (an affectionate term for Dream Captain that Officer Varela uses for her captain).”

“Oh what about the knife in the Central Park case?”

“No hits, however I am sending the knife to the FBI to see if the prints or DNA appears in their data bases.”

“Ok, that one is going to have to wait until we get the results, in the meantime we are doing a full court press here to find out how and who is pulling this caper off.”

“I think that Ortiz and the chief are right, it sure looks like a mind invasion case.”

“I feel that too, it looks like someone has gone to a lot of trouble to pull this off.”

“You got that right DC.”

After two more hours looking around the event site both Flores and Varela find no tangible signs of forced entry or outright fraud by any of the personal connected with the management of Fashion Week.

“DC, I think that this rip off happen before anyone ever got to these tents.”

“My thoughts exactly!”

6.

“I hope that Gina and Armando are getting somewhere at the design studios?”

“Yeah, I hear you; unit 1 to unit 2 over.”

“Unit 2 to unit 1 over.”

“Gina, did you find anything?”

“No Cap. There is no trace of anything out of the ordinary over here, over.”

“Ok, we got to talk, but not over the air, we will meet you back at DSI in about an hour.”

“Will do Cap, unit 2 to unit 1, over and out.”

“So DC, are we stuck in our investigation?”

“No exactly Vero, I hope that our new hardware, will work in this case.”

“You’re right I almost forgot about it.
“I can’t see how, it took both you and Gina three months of trail and error to get it to work on the level that it works now.”

“I can see why you did not want to communicate that info over the air.”

“You never know who might be listening, even over a scrambled transmission police frequency.”

“Now I know why you are so careful, there are a lot of ears our there.”

“You got that right!”

About one hour later, the entire DSI team regroups in their secure sound and electronic proof conference room to go over the next course of action to take.

“People, we are on a tightrope without a net. Fashion week is this Saturday, and we are at a dead end.”

“Cap, maybe our new analyzer, will give us some answers?”

“Gina, at this moment I am open to any suggestion.”

For over the last three months both Lieutenant Ortiz and Officer Varela have been working secretly on a device that if it went public would set back their squad technically in their fight with the major electronic companies attempts to flood the market place with the third generation mind implants and scanners.

7.

This new DSI hardware can identify the alpha wave forms of brain waves in a persons wakening state that are being accessed remotely. What started as an experimental dream locater by the Blue Wave® Electronics Inc. to eavesdrop on people’s thoughts at the workplace in 2007 has now become a perfect “Dream Invasion” device in 2009 to anyone within a two-mile radius to lock on anyone’s thoughts or dreams; this was a true leap in dream technology.

“Can this new tech device really help in this case?”

“It will Diaz, if these people are around these design studios, what Vero and I have been working on will detect their mind probes.”

“For real?”

“It will Armando, and we might catch a break here since most of the design studios are centrally located.”

“I hope your right Veronica.” As doubtful Detective Diaz responds.

The next event is about to really put pressure on the Dream Squad, the leaking of this story to the media. Within four hours, all fashion hell breaks lose! As the chief, call Flores to inform her about the story running in the late edition of the New York Post.

“Damn!” Yells Capt. Flores, so loud that her squad hears her through her closed office door.

“What pissed off the Cap now?” Asks Detective Diaz.

“I don’t know, however I’ll bet a weeks pay she is gong to unload on us why she is.”

“You’re probably right Gina.”

“Well it is front page news, our case just got harder to solve, and we have only four days left until Fashion Week.”

“Cap, Armando and I are going to stake out the fashion district tonight. If anything is shady there we will be able to lock in to any probes within seconds.”

“How?”

“I am going to install booster sensors around the district this afternoon with Armando’s help.”

8.

“That will do it; no way will any probes escape your sensors with roof top boosters.”

“Vero will be here feeding all our inputs into our super computer; there will be no way of anyone trying to trick us into any false leads. However I will need access to those buildings, and we will need warrants for that access.”

“Don’t worry this is were the chief comes in with the mayor, Trust me both of you will have access within an hour.”

As Capt. Flores leaves, the room both are amazed to the strings that their captain can put when time is short in a case.

That night everything is set, and it did not take long for their first results to pay off. By 8:00pm, the sensors detect Alpha wave forms at the Sanders Studios that specialize urban wear.

“Veronica, are you receiving this, over.”

“Yes, receiving lieutenant , over”

“We will now triangulate will all sensors are you ready?”

“Ready!”
